Road Trippin'!

One of the things we love about living in the US is that you can jump in your car and after driving only a few short hours - end up in other states and towns and see and do so many amazing things. Well... after an eleven hour drive you can end up in a new country! Canada! And it just so happens that our fabulous friends from Perth now live there! What does that mean??? ROAD TRIP! After three years of not seeing the people we used to hang out with AT LEAST once a week it was time to pack up the car (and it was very neatly packed thanks to Paul) and head off on the journey to Coalhurst, Alberta!

The kids were AMAZING! We are happy to road trip with them any time. Not one single argument or disagreement. They simply sat together and watched episode after episode of Avatar and napped when they were tired! They had a box of snacks too so other than petrol stops and toilet breaks we were set to drive, drive, drive!

We decided before we had left that we would break the trip in half and stay over night in Butte, Montana! Around dinner time we were in Idaho Falls so we stopped off at the Olive Garden and had a meal. The meal came with unlimited soup or salad. By the time our pizza's had arrived we had pretty much filled up on the soup, salad and bread sticks so we took the pizza's to go! I also asked for the bread sticks and a bowl of soup (much to the embarrassment of Paul). This worked out well though as we had enough food for the drive the next day!

Butte, Montana - never again will we visit Butte, Montana in winter! It was FREEZING! Never have we been so cold! We both said that we would never complain about Utah being cold again! Our car barely started the next morning because it was literally frozen. The roads were completely covered in snow and the outside temperature without factoring in wind chill was -30. Poor Paul almost died while trying to get fuel. The credit card machine was down and the lady was trying to speak to Paul about it through a box on the wall. In the end he was so cold he jumped in the car and drove across the road to another station! His fingers and face were bright red and stinging by the time he got back in the car!

One good thing about Montana though is the incredible views! The mountains are amazing and the roads wind between them. The rivers were so cold they were giving off steam and Hayden was mesmerised thinking they were on fire! Even though it was freezing outside the kids really wanted to open the sun roof and put their hands up as we went down the hills and around the bends. Paul of course agreed to it and they had an absolute ball!

The last stop we made before crossing the border and arriving in Canada was at a place called 'Great Falls' in Montana. I had the video out and asked Hayden to tell the camera where we were... this was his response hahaha! The dear of him - he laughed along with us but he couldn't figure out why we were laughing so hard!

Road tripping was fun... but the real fun began when we arrived in Coalhurst!
