After spending an amazing few days in Seattle we jumped in the car for a road trip up to British Columbia. Our first stop was Whistler. Whistler is one of my most favorite places on this earth. I've been numerous times and am always captivated by its beauty. The drive up to Whistler from Vancouver is equally as amazing - they don't call it a scenic drive for nothing. Majestic mountains towering out of crystal blue lakes surrounded by amazing greenery. Heaven on earth. While in Whistler we stayed at a beautiful hotel within Whistler village and were literally walking distance from everything. We had a great time seeing the sights of Whistler. Here are some snaps of our time there.
- Blackcomb -
On our first day in Whistler we decided to walk over to Blackcomb and see what there was to do. We walked around the village, road the mountain slide and then hired a tandem bike to ride over to Lost Lake. The bike was so scary at first - it was hard to navigate two people controlling the one bike, but once we got the hang of it we actually kicked butt! I was so proud of the fact that we rode all the way to the lake, all the way around the lake and then back to the village without falling or having any accidents. I was obviously so excited about this fact that I got off the bike too quickly when we got back to the hire shop that I stacked it in front of everyone! It was hilarious! Sar knew I was ok so she just sat down and wet herself laughing while two strangers came over to see if I needed help! Even the guys inside the bike store saw me fall and once they could see I was ok - they have a great laugh as well! Well done Bec.
- Peak to Peak Experience -
We bought tickets to do the peak to peak experience. This is a gondola system that takes you up to the very top of Whistler mountain and then across to the top of Blackcomb mountain. The views on the way up are awesome - but nothing compares to the views as you travel from one peak to another. On the way back we waited for a special 'glass bottom' gondola that allowed us to see just how high up we were! It was incredible. Photos don't do it justice. It really was worth the time and money you pay to experience this attraction. If you are ever thinking about doing this while in Whistler I would recommend you putting aside a large chunk of time to do it. Have lunch up the top of the mountain and ride across from one peak to another numerous times to really capture the views.
- Peaked Pies -
We found an Aussie pie shop! It was so exciting for us - it's been so long since we had an Aussie meat pie that we just had to go here for lunch! It didn't disappoint either. It was so yummy. They even had lamingtons for dessert. Gotta love a little piece of home when you're so far away!
- Zip Trek -
The first thing we booked when we knew we were going to Whistler was zip lining. Paul and I had done the Zip Trek zip lining the first time we went to Whistler and both loved it so much. I was happy to do it again and excited for Sarah to experience it too. It was even more fun than I remember. Nothing beats the rush of zipping from one point of the mountain down to another. You feel like you're flying. I was a lot braver this time than the last time too - I went upside down and let go of my hands - such a rush! Zip lining is a must if you are ever in Whistler.
Once we left Whistler we headed down to Vancouver for a couple days. We had already had such a crazy, jam packed trip so far that we took the first day to just relax and hang out. We only had two days in Vancouver before heading back down to Seattle to return the car and catch our flight out so we decided to use this limited time to do Grouse Mountain and The Vancouver Aquarium. Here are the photos from thoese days.
- Grouse Mountain -
Grouse Mountain is another spot I have been to a few times. I've been in both winter and summer and definitely like the summer attractions better. We rode the gondola up the mountain then caught the famous 'limberjack show', tried our first ever 'beavertails', rode the chair lift up to the top peak and visited the local Grizzly bears. We also had lunch with a view down to Vancouver City. It was a really nice day and we had super nice weather for our time there. Grouse is beautiful and it's one of the best spots to get amazing views of the city.
- Vancouver Aquarium -
This is by far my favorite Aquarium. Paul and I visited here back in 2007 and loved it. It's located in the heart of Stanley Park and provides different shows with the animals frequently so you have time to catch them all. We saw the otter feeding, Dolphin show and Sarah's favorite - the whale show. We had beautiful sunshine and it was the perfect ending to our whirl wind trip.
After we finished up at the aquarium we headed back across the border into America and got ready to catch our flight home. It was such a fun trip and I got to make memories that will last me a life time!
