Have I mentioned before that my husband is the best? Well let me mention it again because he really is. In June of this year he took time off work so he could be a stay at home Dad while I went off on a girls trip with Sar. We decided to fly to Seattle, stay there a few days, then hire a car and drive up to Canada. It was honestly one of the funnest trips I have ever been on. It was so relaxing and nice not to worry about my kids 24/7. Here is what we got up to while we were away!
- Duck Tour -
'Ride the Duck' is a tour of Seattle that takes you both on land and in water. The unique WWII vehicle is equipped with both terrain wheels and flotation devices that allows it to drive straight from the road into Lake Union. It was such a cool tour and the driver/captain was hilarious. Between his cheesy jokes to his many costume changes, the tour guide did an amazing job. It was also fun to sing and dance to the loud music as we drove around. I would definitely recommend doing one of these tours if you are ever in the area.
- Chihuly Garden and Glass -
This was not my first visit to Chihuly - but that's ok because the beauty of these incredible pieces of art work never cease to amaze me. The museum is full of blown glass pieces created by Chihuly and his team throughout the years. They have different sections through out the museum & a movie room where you can watch videos of some of the pieces being made. Definitely a place to visit if you're in Seattle. Beautiful. You can also see some of Chihuly's work in the Bellagio hotel in Vegas.
- Pike Place Market -
I loved Pike Place Market. So much history and culture. I had seen online that you could do food tours of the market - so of course - being foodies, we booked one. Before our tour started we hit up the original starbucks (which, turns out, isn't actually the original... long story). We also went to see the lucky pig as per Paul's request, then stopped outside the gum wall so Sar could add a piece of her own. It was nasty. I have become a bit of a germaphobe so the thought of how much bacteria was around was seriously creeping me out. Also - do yourself a favor and ask Sarah or I to see the video of her adding her gum.... SO funny! The food tour was AMAZING. It was probably my favorite part of our whole trip. It really is the best way to see and experience the market. We got to jump all the queues and Sarah even got to catch a fish with the famous fish mongers! It was super fun and also super informative at the same time... not to mention tasty : ) Hit them up - Savor Seattle Food Tours.
- Seattle Aquarium -
We had city passes in Seattle and that allowed us entrance into the Seattle Aquarium. It's definitely not the best aquarium I've ever been to... that comes later in the Vancouver section of our trip. It wasn't bad though. They had THE cutest otters and I so badly wanted to take them home! I also got to see a very rare "Sarah Fish" : )
- Space Needle & Great Wheel -
Our city passes also got us into the Seattle space needle. It really is the best way to view Seattle in it's entirety. We were lucky enough to go up the space needle at Dusk and watch as the sun set over the city. It was beautiful. Seattle really is an amazing city and the views from the top deck of the needle are incredible. We also decided to take in the views from the Seattle Great Wheel. This was exciting for us as we are both big Grey's Anatomy fans and this was the best location to see the ferry boats.
Seattle was so good to us. We had already seen and done so many fun things and yet we were only a few days into our trip. I am guessing that by now you are starting to see why this was one of the best vacations I've been on! I should also add that we had a really nice hotel room and we ate at Maggianos - my favorite restaurant. It was shaping up to be a trip to remember. Stay tuned for Part 2.
