Thanksgiving Day Fun!

Thanksgiving has been a strange holiday for us since moving here. The first year we were invited to our friends house with their family to celebrate. It was so much fun and there was so much delicious food. I was pregnant with the twins at the time however and was deathly ill! It's hard to enjoy such great food when you know it's all coming back up again!

The following year we were all sick with colds! We didn't want to go to anyone's house and get them sick too - so instead we went to village in. It's a diner chain here in the US. Nothing fancy. Not that we cared too much - we weren't feeling great anyway.

This year we were all healthy and good to go! Like previous years we had our niece Brittney come stay with us - but this year we also got to have Caitlin come too! It's her first year at Oakland and we were excited for her to join us! Especially Emma!

Seeming as we were all healthy and had two special guests I decided to attempt a thanksgiving meal! I called my Mum and asked her how to cook a turkey (haha - yeah - probably something I should have figured out by now!) Mum suggested I wrap it in bacon and gave me some instructions! I had everything else all but figured out so it was really just the turkey that was giving me anxiety!

The meal turned out great! I was pretty proud of my first effort and everyone seemed to enjoy it! While we sat around and ate our meal we went around the group sharing what we are thankful for starting with each letter of the alphabet. Some of these things included Australia, America, Food, Our house, Our Car, Each other etc etc.

The funniest one had to go to Hayden who claimed that he was thankful for his accent because it "helps me get girls!". We all burst out laughing - such a Hayden remark to make as well!

We finished off the day with our thanksgiving tradition of decorating gingerbread houses. The kids always love to do this and spend hours at the table talking, laughing and having fun while making their masterpieces!

Thanksgiving was a great success and a good time was had by all! I'm so thankful for my amazing family who bring love and laughter into my life on a daily basis.
