I have been very over the cold this winter... and to be honest - It hasn't even been a bad winter. Weak I know! Anyway - I had been begging Paul to organise a trip to Vegas or somewhere warm for the Presidents Day long weekend we had coming up. it was the perfect chance to get away for a weekend and enjoy some sun and swim! Vegas, St George and California are all way warmer than here and driving distance away, so I knew it wouldn't be too hard for us to find somewhere to go! Paul organised a trip to San Fransisco for that weekend and then the night before we were meant to leave I had to tell him to cancel. I was SO bummed! I had been sick with a head cold and just wasn't feeling good (and was miserable) and then Hayden got such a bad migraine that he started throwing up! Disaster!
Saturday morning I was feeling much better and Hayden's headache had gone away so I begged Paul to still go... of course this was silly as it was a 10 hour drive, we hadn't packed and he had cancelled our hotel reservations. it just wasn't going to work. However - Paul had an idea that we could take a trip to Moab. It is east of here and more dessert like climate means the temps are higher! It's only a three hour drive so we had plenty of time to pack and get on the road and still have two full days of fun before having to head back.
Turns out - Moab was SO fun! The weather was perfect. We swam, we ate, we shopped and we hiked! We spent one full day (President's Day) hiking the different trails in Arches National Park. We had to buy two hiking backpacks to put the twins in but it was so worth it. The views were amazing, the work out was very much needed and the scenery was simply breathtaking. We even managed to hike all the way up to the famous 'Delicate Arch' which is featured on Utah license plates. Its a 3 hour round trip and VERY steep! The incline was not fun - especially with a 20 pound baby strapped to your back... but totally worth it. I couldn't believe how beautiful it was up there - it literally takes your breath away (and not just because you had to bust your butt to get up there!).
We hiked all day long. We took photos, had a picnic lunch, took in the views and let the babies get down and run around on the easier walking trails. I will admit - they did try and eat some of the rocks and red dirt - but they loved it and had so much fun so it's all good! The older kids loved going to the easier trails too because it gave them the chance to actually climb up into the rocks and explore the different formations up close : )
Moab is now one of our favorite holiday spots and we plan to come back each Presidents Day long weekend as there is still so much that we didn't get to see and do! Next time as the twins will be older we are going to hire bikes and do some of the bike trails over the colorado river! Can't wait! I never thought I would say this - but I really like hiking! Cant wait to go back and explore more of this beautiful red dessert and the beautiful stones, arches and rock formations it has on display! Thanks for such a fun weekend Paul - you really out did yourself with such limited time and notice!

Looks Awesome! I love the pics :)
