We recently decided to stop our children from being able to use electronics or technology on a school night. They were constantly on ipads, iphones, watching TV, playing games on the computer etc. They would become so engrossed in the technology that they would freak out when asked to stop what they were doing to complete homework or help with something else - things like "but I can't save my game", "I'm in the middle of this show" or "I just reached a new level" were constantly being sprayed back at me.
We are in week 3 of this new change and I must say - things are going so well! The first few days were a nightmare! They were acting like they were dying from lack of technology and we had many tantrums and tears. Now - they are so used to it that they often choose not to use technology on a weekend and play with each other instead. They get their homework and chores done as soon as they get home from school. Then they either play with toys, go outside or read. They also love cooking and drawing now too. Emma has also developed a LOVE of reading and seems to always have her nose buried in a book - especially in the evenings before bed. Hayden has re-discovered his love of lego and is always up in his room building things or playing games with his lego men. I often hear them chatting and giggling with each other too - it's so nice to hear them getting along instead of fighting over what tv show they are going to watch!
We are definitely sticking to this new routine! The kids are so much happier and more pleasant to be around - it was the best decision we ever made!
