"Im sorry... What?" Part 2!

This is how I seem to spend most of my time lately. The first trimester of this pregnancy has been incredibly hard on me physically. For the first 6-9 weeks I was constantly throwing up and could keep nothing down at all... I began losing weight which was a concern to our OB as I was meant to be putting it on at a consistent speed - especially with twins. In the end she prescribed me some medication that they give cancer patients to help deal with the nausea that comes with chemotherapy. I was glad to finally be getting some relief from the constant throwing up.

The first day I took them I ended up in tears with a severe migraine headache. The doctor had mentioned that headaches were a possible side effect - but when I read the information packet the pharmacist game me it didn't say 'possible' side effect - it just said 'side effects'. I was so upset - I thought this was going to be my chance to finally feel a little more human and be able to get on with my life. Sadly no - it seemed I either spent the day vomiting or I spent the day in bed with a severe headache. I finally came to a compromise. I would take 1/3 of the nausea medication dose so that while it would still leave me feeling nauseous I wouldn't actually throw up and could keep dry foods or plain foods down (not that I had much of an appetite). I also took two tylenol at the same time to keep the headache down to a dull thump instead of the migraines I would get taking the full dose. This meant that my days were spent feeling like I was going to be sick with a mild headache. Yeah - fun right?

Luckily for me now I am through my first trimester and it seems the nausea has eased off considerably. I do get headaches everyday but some days they are very mild. That means I am now able to head back to work and start to feel a little more normal. I still get very tired and find I need a nap or frequent rests during the day - If I substitute at school during the day I am wiped by the time I get home, but I can handle that. It feels good to be back at work and doing what I enjoy and often takes my mind off feeling ill. I am starting to put on weight again and am almost back to my pre-pregnancy weight. Fingers crossed it only gets better from here...
