Get Some Guns!

So a while ago I went to get my hair done at my friend Denise's house and while I was there I told her the story about meeting Paul's companion and how he had casually told us he had some guns in his car and then proceeded to bring them in the house and show us (see previous blog post). I then asked her if her family had a gun... I really shouldn't have been surprised that the answer was yes... especially since I had already asked a few other people from the ward and they ALL replied with a yes...but I still was! Denise - sweet little Denise who I couldn't imagine hurting a fly had a gun and had shot guns a few times before in her life!

I really needed to get used to the idea that so many people - normal, completely ordinary people own guns - that seemed like a better option then thinking my new friend was a psychotic, gun wielding serial killer! Seeing my shock and hearing me say I had never even seen a gun in real life Denise made plans to take Paul and I out for a double date with her husband Lance and herself to a shooting range! Now I'll admit - I wasn't crash hot about the idea! I was excited for Paul cause I knew he would LOVE it - but me - I was scared I was going to shoot my own foot off accidentally!

My nerves showed as we entered the shooting range called "Get some guns and ammo!". The big burly looking guy behind the desk was rattling off a bunch of questions and talking about all the different awesome guns they had for us to try out.... I had NO idea what he was going on about and he clearly knew this - he even found it amusing and smiled or laughed every time he saw my expression! When the door to the range opened Denise and I both jumped at how loud the bullets sounded! The guy at the desk laughed and said "and that's with another two doors shut between us and them! "Help me now" was all I could think! I was going to shoot myself - or someone else and completely embarrass myself.

We hired two guns - I refer to them as the big one and the little one. One was a rifle and the other a pistol. They had fancy names with numbers attached to them but I can't remember what they were - so big gun and little gun it is! The boys went first and Denise and I watched from the back... it didn't seem that hard - so we gave it a go. To my surprise it was actually really fun - and no - no injuries to myself or anyone else! Score! By the end Paul was really getting into the swing of things and even sent a shot with the pistol down range that hit the target smack in the middle of the face! Bulls eye! Nice work Pauly! He was so pleased with his shot that we took the target papers home with us!

To finish off the night we headed over to the cheesecake factory for a yummy meal and a chat. Anyone that knows me knows I love the cheesecake factory - we had decided to go eat there because I was a good sport and actually had a go at the guns... turns out it was a win, win for me! I loved shooting the guns and still got to go to my favourite restaurant for dinner! Great company, great entertainment and great food - what more could you want out of a double date! Thanks for inviting us Lance and Denise - we had a blast and cant wait to see what adventures our next double date brings! : )
