Hayden actually let me pick the book we would read tonight - so instead of it being about cars or sharks or some other kind of boyish story, I picked one of my favourite books 'Just like my Dad' by David Melling. This is one of my favourite books because it is so cute and funny. It is about a lion cub explaining how he is going to get sharp nails like his Dad or spikey hair like his Dad. It also talks about his Dad playing games with him and his friends and how his friends all say they want to be just like his Dad too!
It's adorable and Hayden LOVED it! He was cracking up at the funny pictures and the part about burping like Dad and kept running off to tell Paul about the things he does like the lion in the story. He liked it enough that tomorrow night I get to read him 'Just like my Mum!' He did ask me to read him 'Sharks' at the end though as a reward for doing such great reading! It wasn't nearly as nice to read but he enjoyed looking at all the pictures of the scary sharks and the stuff they had eaten!
If anyone has small children and are looking for some new or cute books to read them - I highly recommend any of the books by David Melling - he is a terrific author and always has such positive messages in his stories! 'Good Knight, Sleep Tight' is another favourite.
